On the 24th September 2009 David Hodge, the District Governor of District 1250 gave a talk at the Chairman's Dinner for the Surrey & West Sussex Region of the Federation of Small Businesses

At the end of the FSB Chairman's year in Surrey & West Sussex a dinner is held to thank all the Activists who have helped during the last 12 Months.

The FSB Regional Chairman chooses the After Dinner Speaker and the Charity for the Raffle to be held at this event.

Geoff Williamson (Regional Chairman of Surrey & West Sussex FSB) chose David Hodge the District Governor of Region 1250 RIBI as Speaker and the Gatwick Diamond Rotary Club as the Charity.

David Hodge gave a very interresting talk about the History of Rotary and what was happening about the World Wide Polio Campaign.

Tony Cherry, National Vice Chairman for the FSB had also been invited to this event and he felt that the FSB and RIBI might be able to work closer together in some way.

Over £60 was raised in the Raffle all of which would be paid into the Gatwick Diamond Rotary Club Charity Account for onward distribution to the Foundation Fund.

Chairman’s Dinner
Thirty members of the Surrey & West Sussex Region attended the Chairman’s Dinner held at the Roffey Park Institute, Horsham on Thursday 24th September.
After dinner, a presentation was made to Audrey Whitney by John Walker, the FSB’s National Policy Chairman, for all her hard work over the last 5 years. Audrey, who recently moved to East Sussex, was a very active member in the Surrey & West Sussex Region. She was Chairman of the Arun & District Branch, Chairman of the West Sussex Policy Group and Deputy National Councillor.
The guest speaker for the evening was David Hodge, District Governor of Rotary International District 1250. David gave an informative talk about the history of the organisation and its charity work.
He explained that Rotary Club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace and eradicate polio. Since Rotary International and its partners launched the Global Polio Eradication Initiative in 1985, cases of polio worldwide have decreased by 99%. Now the disease remains endemic in just four countries - Afghanistan, India, Nigeria, and Pakistan.
At the end of the evening, a raffle was held in aid of the Gatwick Diamond Rotary Club and £70.00 was raised.
Geoff Williamson, Chairman of the Surrey & West Sussex Region of the FSB, said:
“Rotary was founded in 1905 and has developed into one of the largest organisations in the world with over 33,000 Clubs and 1.2 million members. As an active member of the FSB and Rotary I was pleased to be able to invite David Hodge to give such an informative talk to all present and there may be grounds for both to work closer together in the future. It is amazing that with so little publicity Rotary in England raises over 30 Million Pounds every Year for local and International causes. I would also like to thank Tony Cherry National Vice Chairman of the FSB for attending what was my third and last Chairman’s Dinner”
